Truly attractive stamps with minimal CV. They must have been a popular buy for collectors when issued. |

Not sure, but that might just possibly be the elongated E in PENNY flaw, SG 162, cat. £65. Worth comparing with a guaranteed non-elongated E to make certain. |

Quote: that might just possibly be the elongated E in PENNY flaw I have GOT to spend more time with my catalogues. I generally don't look up the common stuff that (I think) I know. C. |

Not sure if that is the case.. I found an example on the web and it says "The elongated "E" has a lifted bottom arm, and the adjoining N a tapered left foot."
The scanner I have at work won't scan higher then 600dpi... so I will scan at home on my 2400 dpi scanner. But I don't think it is. But then again I never knew about this stamp. |

Based on the current resolution of your pic, it looks like a normal E to me. The N is usually not a reliable check, and should only be used as a last resort (e.g., if a cancel obscures the E). Here is a pic of the elongated E flaw. k |

Went to my old Commonwealth Five Reigns (1980) catalogue to see if it listed/illustrated this flaw - as I should have done in the first place. It doesn't list the elongated E, but it does point out something about this set: 'The overprint on Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the bottom row of all values (small head type) in first releases have the C of Columbus directly beneath the L of Landfall, instead of to the left as normal.'
And the moral is: you can never have too much information! |

Another example of the elongated E. The tapered left foot of the adjoining N is quite prominent. |

I'm in the process of making an inventory of my Bahamas Album, and came across this one: It's a Scott# 611b 40¢ Four-eyed Butterfly Fish, with a "1990" inscription at the bottom Center. Problem is Scott lists the value of this stamp, and the 615b, as a big ol'e BLANK! (or a dash...) I know what that means, but find it hard to believe for a 1990 issue. Any ideas or alternate references on value would be appreciated. Thanks, Al |

A scan of the Bahamas Elongated E Flaw was posted in an earlier comment. Since it came from my website, and was posted with no link to the site, I will provide one here. http://www.kgvistamps.com/kgvistamps/flaws.aspxFeel free to visit if you are looking for any of the Catalog listed flaws. Currently there are 159 flaws listed, most are King George VI flaws. The site is periodically updated as collectors submit their listed flaws for the site. I would appreciate a link to my site and an explanation of what is found there if you post it anywhere on the internet. |
