Most of us will be familiar with the one-country 'on Steiner pages' threads by rod222. It has been some time since he posted here. He had started a thread showing stamps issued by my own country.

This thread shows more Dutch stamps but on pages published by the Dutch publishing house 'Uitgeverij DAVO,' of Deventer. The word 'uitgevrij' is Dutch for 'publishing house.' In 1945, it published its first album 'NEDERLANDSCHE POSTZEGELS IN DEN OORLOG' (Dutch postage stamps during the war).

Today, DAVO publishes a range of one-country albums. Their albums, also, have been published under the Stanley Gibbons brand.

Davo was an eighth-century monk, who, according to the Benedictine Hucbald, gave his name to the town of Deventer.

The pages are those from an older DAVO 'Cristal' album. This predecessor of the current 'LUXE' pre-printed album had crystal-clear mounts.

The annotations are a reminder that my father bought me sets of stamps at the stamp and coin market held every Sunday morning under the arches of the Plaza Mayor in Madrid.

DAVO albums, generally, do not split up series issued over a longer period. This practice did not pose a problem for series issued before an album was published. For series that were current when the album was published, or emitted after the album was published, annual supplements would include a replacement page with spaces added for the new additions to the series. This practice, gradually, was abandoned from the 1980s onward.

The 'En Profil' permanent series of Queen Juliana was issued between 1953 and 1967. A single stamp was issued in 1963 (24c),1965 (18c), and 1967 (95c). Page 43 provides spaces for the complete set, including the high 'gulden' values.

I stopped collecting Dutch stamps in the early 1990s. At the time, the DAVO 'Nederland' album only had spaces for the most basic sets. There were no pages for perforation, watermark, or phosphor varieties. There were a few exceptions, such as the fluorescent 'Gouda' trial stamps and the 1967 'Europa' stamps that were issued both on paper with and without watermark.

A special page was published for the 1981 reprints of the 'gulden' value stamps of the 'Regina' permanent series of Queen Juliana. Also, there were spaces for the coil stamps of the permanent stamps of the 'Crouwel' design that were imperforate top and bottom. However, there were no spaces for commemorative coil stamps that were imperforate on two sides.

Blank pages with the standard frame were available, so collectors could add their varieties. Below is such a blank page of the later 'Luxe' type with the 'En Profile' permanent stamps of Queen Juliana printed on phosphorised paper.

The DAVO 'Great Britain' album did include extra pages for basic watermark and phosphor varieties.
