Hi,

Germany, Scott nr 905 - but imperforate and green instead of red brown 20 pf ? Cut corner.

When sorting through loads of german stamps I found this one. I only have some old Scott catalogs that does not list that much variants.
Is this any variant that is mentioned in Michel catalogues?

It is a bit thicker - so I am guessing that it also could be a cut-out from some stationery and then glued as a stamp on this cutcorner?

Hi Tomten,

Most likely from a card serie 1966-67, consitent with the date.

Would have been nice to have the complete letter. A keeper in my opinion.

German word for this type of use is '' Ganzsachenausschnitte''

Here an example on cover, 45 Pf from card.

Thanks.

Was it common to cut out from cards like this and use them as ordinary stamps on another envelope?

They should not have been allowed in Germany.
Your example appears not to have been tied to the cover. This raises the question whether it is authentic.
Sometimes, one was used and slipped through.

Hi Tomten,

It was prohibited. Normally you will see them isolated with a blue marker and taxed. If not noticed well..... A keeper in both situation. Older ones are pricy!

Best regards

Thanks to both of you!

Then it is a bit more interesting to keep yes.
More interesting to keep than the other 235 pieces of cut corners of scott 905 and 106 pieces of cut corners of scott 906, that I sorted and catalogued yesterday.

I don't think I ever will understand what my granddad was thinking by collecting/hoarding this many copies of the same stamps.

Cut outs were popular until the early twentieth century. They have gone out of fashion. They, still, may be of interest for collectors of cancellations.
