Trying to ID the city/town name on this cancel-- here are 3 different images (I used Image Sleuth- thanks again!!), and since the cancel is black, it always clashes with the black in Memel:

I've looked at German names of cities/towns in Memelland, and I've looked at German names of cities/towns in East Prussia, and I don't think that this postmark was based in Memel. I could absolutely be wrong about that though-- after all, my wife doesn't think I'm right EVER

Thanks for your help, Ray

I believe I have two lists. One list on my computer that may be partial, and then I think my old Michel Germany Specialized has a list of Memel post offices. The closest, and really only, match on my computer list is Jagstellen, Your first letter doesn't seem to match. I will be back with my Michel later this week and can check that, if no one else has piped up by then.

It is Jagstellen, cjd. The "J" is a little weak and hidden by the "M," but the vertical bar and bottom hook of a J are there.

Wow. You guys are the best.....thanks.

And Jaksteliai (Jagstellen) is definitely in the area that would have been Memelland. Very small town, at least in 1925 the population was about 250.

Appreciate your help! Ray
