After firing up the Google, I seem to have learned that these two stamps are unauthorized local overprints supporting the liberation of Burgenland, a small Austrian state on the Eastern edge, bordering on Hungary.

Should anyone be in a position to cast a bright light of illumination about this particular overprint, I would be greatly appreciative.

"Burgenland Befreiung" = "Liberation of Burgenland" indeed.
Local private overprints from October 1921,according to Michel catalogue.
The full set includes 18 stamps.
They are known with cancellations (CTO) from Zemendorf.

(not mine)

See page 166 (26 of the PDF), image (Abbildung) 24.

Oktober 1921.

Basically, it states these were a local initiative that was tolerated by the post office, and, consequently, legal use.

The history behind them:

(Propaganda from the Austrians to prevent Ödenburg, current Sopron in Hungary, being handed to Hungary. Sopron is where the iron curtain started to come down on 19 August 1989.)
Bottom page 148 (page 8 of the PDF).
