Hello all, I recently purchased a used Grenada SG 163 that is perforated 12 x 13. Upon checking the perforations, it seems this stamp is clearly 11.5 x 13. I can't find it listed in SG or Scott but hoping someone has a more comprehensive catalog that includes this variation and can shed some light on this stamp. Thanks to all that take the time to answer.

Most likely it is perf 12 x 13, which is Scott 142b. There is no perf 11.5 x 13 in this issue. Perhaps you could create an image showing the presumed 11.5 side against a gauge. As an aside, there were 9 total printings of this stamp, of which Scott lists 3.

Gibbons round up perforations, so that something that gauges 11.5-12 will be listed as perf 12, even though you may find stamps gauging 11.5 or even 11.75.

It's a natural variance in the machinery.

As Bobby De La Rue pointed out.

If you measure it exactly, the perforation, likely, will turn out to be 11.5+. In the old days, perforations were measured in full or halves. Nowadays, Stanley Gibbons uses quarters. They have not always updated older listings. So, do not be surprised to find more recent stamps listed in quarter-step perforation gauges and older sets in half-step perforation gauges.

edit: added 'full or'

The best I can get towards perf 12 is 11.6. If there is no 11.5 variation then I will have to accept that the rounding up theory. Thanks for the replies.

In the image, the paper appears to be a bit pinkish/reddish in the margins. If so, this could be one of the printings of SG 163e.

The Commonwealth Five Reigns catalogue lists 11.75x13 comb perf as a perf option for a March 16, 1938 issue. The colors are listed as carmine and steel blue. (Note that colors and issue dates vary across various references.)

There's an 11.75 line perf listed for September 10, 1943 (but in addition to being line perfed, that stamp doesn't have compound perforations).

Assuming I'm reading this right. I think I am.

Vanchester, does the stamp have toned gum? Perhaps you could post an image of the gum side?
