I've been collecting stamps for several years. I have a varied collection of worldwide stamps, but nothing of significant value. I generally collect stamps that illustrate historic events or that have an image that catches my interest. In recent years I have been focusing on modern German and U.S. stamps. I am looking forward to learning more about the hobby from the forum. Thanks for maintaining this informative forum.

KMB,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Sounds like you are a perfect candidate to become a postal history collector?

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Hello, KMB, I'm very new here too. I see you have two areas of interest.

For your historic events and image interest, I suggest making pages to display your collection. I use Microsoft Word to make my own pages when I need to bridge between collections' year spans. If you feel like making your own pages, you can add text on your page along with rectangles to put your stamps in. They really do look good in frames, like in a stamp album. In the text, you can describe what interests you next to the stamp or group of stamps for all the admirers of your collection, including of course, you!

Get a laser printer and an adjustable hole punch of 2- or 3- ring binders, and you'll be set to make your own albums.

For the new U.S. and German issues, I suggest printing Steiner pages for that interest.

HI KMB,
Fellow Virginian here (Charlottesville area). I collect mostly USA stamps issued in specific years. The years are birth years from my two kids and four grand kids. Beyond that, I figured I should try Disney themed stamps from around the world. Never realized how huge a project that would be, so I'm trying to do some album Ground Work to see if a Disney worldwide album would be a helpful project to others. I'm using the Album Easy download (Free) to create the albums. It took a bit of testing and failing but It's starting to come together now. Not sure what programming language it uses but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.

Welcome! Also check out the classic US. You won't be disappointed. And if you like Germany, go check out Austria. Also very nice.
