I was a member here a long time ago. My home burnt down in 2012. I lost 90% of my 55 year collection. My best stamp at the time was my penny black that I won at the Annual stamp show in Orlando in 2000. It was the Grand Prize. Was the only one that burnt off the page. Anyway, I lost 25 Scott Interationals, 20 separate country albums & a U.S. National album. Also I had 55 new FDC albums with 5500 covers (the FDC album alone cost $1375.00. Ok, So I decided I was too old to start collecting worldwide again. I now only collect U.S., Great Britain, Canada Australia, New Zealand. British Commonwealth -Caribbean countries and Hong Kong (1862-1997). Replaced some of my collection at Michael Roger's auctions before he sold his business in 2014. Loved those auctions,
what an experience.
Anyway, that about covers it.

Stampfire,

Glad to hear you are getting back into collecting. Hopefully your insurance coverage covered some of your financial loss. Ynderstandable it takes time to get over the emotional loss.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Sounds like you are a perfect candidate to become a postal history collector?

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
