Hello

My name is Charlotte. I recently inherited my Grandads stamp collection.

My favourites of his are his world stamps from pre 1960.

They are so historical and incredible to look at.

I am looking to add to his collection and think I am going to collect some stamps along the theme of Communist Stamps or Fascist Stamps.

I am a History teacher so I wanted to do something based on things I enjoy learning about.

Please share your Communist / Fascist Stamps for inspiration.

I am clueless about stamps and I am just doing it for fun and to carry on my Grandads memory :)

Hi Charlotte, and a very welcome to this forum!
I have a question. I am pre 1960 myself. Does that make me historical ? Please don't answer that - just kidding !

CharMarie2024.

Consider collecting postal history (stamps on the covers they carried through the mails). There in lies the true story.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Sounds like you are a perfect candidate to become a postal history collector?

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

What is 'communist' and what is 'fascist'?

Strictly speaking, only Italy was fascist. Countries governed by communist parties had a habit of calling themselves socialist, and some of the parties called themselves socialist or people's party.

'Fascist,' especially, has become a word that means 'you do not agree with me.'

I can recommend comparing Vladimir Putin's utterings over the past two to three years to Hitler's utterings of 1938 and 1939.

Peter oh no I feel like I have got myself into hot water there #128514;.

I have started having a look on ebay. So far I am just choosing stamps I like the look of? Is this a good way to go about it? :)

NSK that's very philosophical. I think I am just going to stick with stamps I like the look of :)

I'm pretty sure the definitions of communist and fascist are fairly well established, and don't conform to "only Italy was fascist."

They are not. They are used very loosely and especially certain elements in society use the words to denote anything they do not agree with.
