But here's the thing, while and when the PF has stature with the auction houses, they have the community by the short hairs, since there are always more people looking for service than there are venues for providing it.

Message understood. For me to spend ~$1,000 to certify six stamps may not put me in the realm of the elite collectors that PF caters to. I'm simply suggesting they could make it easier to take my money. And if they don't, somebody will. Cartels work for a while, then eventually the market corrects them.

In fairness to the person that answered the phone at PF, btw, I did not --and would not, say she was "old." I said she was "nice", and she was. Just want to clear any misunderstanding there. (As a retiree myself, I've learned that young and old are terms often used as pseudo-synonyms for flexible and inflexible. I know plenty of rigid, rigorously severe people and quite a few adaptable, growth-oriented folks across all age ranges.)

stampsonmail "I've never figured out how to find out actual offer accepted for these $-strike-through items"

So search; items sold, from highest to lowest and the item will come up in the ranking and should give you an idea of what it sold for. If it now falls between a $30 item and a $25 item you will know it sold in that range. If there are very few sold items then it might not give an accurate estimate. For example if it shows an item sold for $40 and the next item sold for $10 and your fell between these then you have a fairly large range of what yours sold for.

FYI-most of the collectors that use the PF are not "elite".

LB522 as far as I know the PF has never accepted credit cards. You will notice than the methods of payment they do accept do not result in a percentage deduction cost to them. Also it is much harder to dispute a check/money order payment than a credit card payment when an opinion the sender dislikes is rendered. I am surprised they accept PayPal, but they may not have the trying to reverse payment on disliked opinions issue with folks who paid via PayPal (yet).
