Bindertek would have won except it is too tall. Won't fit in my cabinet. Like I said earlier I need a "fat White Ace binder" /slipcase. I may have to bite the bullet and go back to Scott Specialty and just deal with the extra dept (width)

"The 'rectangular rings' (aka D-rings) of Vario are a feature not a bug."

This may have been in response to my comment about the Vario G's "tall rectangular rings," but I never said D rings were a "bug". I think you've confused yourself and/or mixed up the tall rings on the Vario G that are close to being actual rectangles with the much better rings called "D rings" which work well.

You're right that rings with a flat side to them are a very good idea. They do make the pages line up better in a much neater way. I definitely prefer them to all-round rings, but rings with a flat side are in no way "rectangular". You remember the shapes we all learned in kindergarten? Well, the Vario G's ring are actual rectangles -- very close to flat on all sides -- while the far more useful binder rings are round but with one side flat. My kindergarten teacher never got around teaching us that shape -- but it seems to be called a "D ring". And I'm all for it!

If you read what I said carefully, I was not complaining about rectangular rings. In fact, if I ran a warehouse that might be just the kind of binder I'd want for storing bills of lading. What I was saying is that the rings on the Vario G were unusually "tall" -- hence "rectangular" -- which made the simple act of turning a page much more laborious. You have to lift each page up a few inches, then over the top of the rectangle, then back down the other side. It really is a very tall rectangle. So I wondered if it was even supposed to be any more than a storage binder. Anyway, whatever the case, I didn't like it. Google "Vario G binder" is you'd like a look at one. It is quite strange.

As I said, check out the Scott/Amos three-ring binder they sell in blue or black. It has a slipcase, a padded cover, and works very well. It's not very "fat," though. Just slim and attractive.

You'll see them listed at the very end (page 4) of this list of ring binders on the Amos Advantage website.

$21 each is a bargain for a very nice binder like this. They hold only 8.5x11" pages -- and by this point I've completely forgotten the parameters of your search and whether that size is a good one for you or not. Sorry, old age brain fade is real.

You've undoubtedly done this also, but scouring Amazon for binders might turn up some potential candidates. Consider it a form of computer dating. You search until the right one appears.

I never noticed those Page 4 offerings on Scott. That might just be what I'm looking for. Thanks to all who have replied!
