Does anyone use a thermal printer for ebay shipping labels? I'm looking into it and curious if anyone is successfully doing it.

I used to be able to wheedle a way to print the ebay "special envelope" label onto #10 envelopes from my laser printer, but ever since I changed laptops I can't get that to work.

I use a thermal printer for shipping labels, and it has saved me a lot of time. My wife gave it to me for Christmas, because she was frustrated with me writing so many envelopes by hand.

I use the 4x6 labels because they work well on any size envelope. The only part I find difficult when using it on ebay is that I cannot get the labels to print correctly from the ebay website. I have to download them, open it up in a PDF and change the orientation to landscape for it to print correctly.

Yes, I use a 4x6 thermal printer for ebay labels when I'm not affixing stamps. It works well.

Important note: If you are planning to use it to print the ebay Standard Envelope labels, you do NOT just want to buy a garden variety base model, as those are 200dpi, and the text size on the ebay Standard Envelope is much smaller than that found on UPS or USPS envelopes. On a 200dpi label, the text can be ragged and muddy. You want a 300dpi printer, which will cost a little bit more, but it's worth it.

I tried a few different models from Amazon, some with driver issues, and others with feeding issues, before hitting on this one (LabelRange LP620), which I have been using for approximately a year with fan-fold labels:

You can get 500 fanfold labels for about $10:

Good info. Thanks! (do you have to download and manipulate the pdf of an ebay standard label on the LP620 too?). I am averaging over 20 lots a day so definitely time to give this a try.

As an aside...
For anyone who does a lot of business with either UPS or FedEx, they will give you a free Zebra Thermal printer and labels.

Yes the label is a PDF, but I don't do any manipulation of the PDF, just download/view (depending on your personal OS/browser PDF handler settings) and print, for both USPS and Standard Envelope labels.

The only thing you have to be sure to do is go into your ebay settings and change the label printing settings from the default 8.5x11 layout to 4x6.

It used to be more problematic with International labels, but if you've opted into EIS (which you ABSOLUTELY should, there's no downside), all international shipments use domestic labels anyway so that's no longer an issue.

Printer ordered. We'll see how it goes! (this may turn into an APS column).

There *is* a downside to the ebay international shipping program, which is that international buyers mostly hate it because it's expensive. But it's great for sellers (and has a lot of protection built into it, which certainly has some appeal).

ebay suddenly allowed me to combine shipping under the ebay International shipping program, but it's not much help because they simply charged the customer for each item but let me ship them in 1 package.

True, just as the Global Shipping Program was that preceded it.

In all candor, I'm willing to forgo some lost international sales in exchange for the security and simplification that EIS offers me as a seller. I've already saved several thousand dollars in retained sales where the items were lost, damaged, or refused in transit. Just not having to deal with insurance claims, refunds, SNAD claims, etc. is worth the cost of entry.

It's one of the VERY few features ebay has rolled out in the last 2 decades that is a clear win for sellers IMO.

...and to close the loop on this, I ordered the LabelRange LP620 as recommended and it works easily and well. It came this afternoon, I set it up in a couple of minutes, and it prints quickly and accurately. The only thing that took a second was convincing the printer that it had been fed labels.
