Its a cork cancel, manual and typical of the era. I'm not aware of a specific data which definitely lists these early cancels. From about 1857 to 1880.

By the way, your stamp is probably Unitrade/Scott # 23 - Rose Lake from 1861 Third Pence Issue. Has some value, maybe more if it has watermark. There is tiny chance it might be #15 from the 1857 First Pence Issue, but doubtful because they are rare and ultra valuable. If I were in your shoes, I'd have it authenticated and get a cert. Unless you have info on its provenance.

There is a fairly definitive list of types of cancels once cork was not used. In the Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue on page 376.
For example, Double split circles, Fancy, Duplex, Straight line and Roller.
