Hello all,

I am trying to uncover the history behind the stamp shown. It was found in a collection with some US stamps.

I am aware it may just be a fake, it looks like it has been hand drawn. I wonder if this could be have been used as a replacement when the actual stamps ran out, however if that is the case I would like try and back that up with some facts.

After hours of my own searching I have not been able to learn anymore.

The history of these odd bits fascinates me and I would appreciate any guidance or insights that anyone can offer.

Hello. Looks as if it was drawn by a child on a piece of stamp-edging.

I am wondering if it relates to the following:

It looks as if the cancellation was in a date ending 97. Could it be 1897?

Doubtful. The 'cancellation' mark also was drawn and not stamped.
It does look like some child created his own post office.

Somewhat crude, but got fairly straight lines, somewhat round circles, and knows how to do stylized numbers on very small scale. Older kid maybe.

Forgot to add that if you're looking mainly at the stamp and not noticing the cancel... I've seen worse. Worse forgeries for sure.
