Hi All, I'm having difficulty distinguishing between France Scott 175 (type II) and Scott 175b (type I). I was hoping to find an image online showing the differences between these two types but have been unsuccessful. Would anyone be able to help with this? I'm thinking the one on the left is a #175b and one on right is #175. Thanks in advance.

Hi canyoneer,

The type 1 has the thinner lettering while the type II has thicker lettering.

Hope this helps

Appears both are type I the left one is type IIa or Yvert Ia (1906) with the last 'E' in 'REPUBLIQUE' looking like an 'F,' and the right I (1907-1924).

Type I

Type II

The left one may be what is referred to here as 'maigre.'

Maury suggests that the precancel only utilised Type I.

Thanks to you all for the help and especially the links. Pictures much more helpful than the 1-2 sentences Scott gives it. I've got to hand it to Google also for the French translation at those websites.
