I was just looking through an auction lot of stamps that I recently purchased and noted among them a used Scott # 318, with cancel, on a corner of an envelope. Naturally this piqued my interest thinking that I had hit the jackpot. Unfortunately a little research disabused me of this, given that there is no value listing for a used #318 in the Scott Specialized, because none have ever been sold.

Further google searching on the Philatelic Foundation's site confirmed that the existence of a real used 318 stamp is unlikely. There are mint 318s to be found with hefty prices.

Anyway, I looked at ebay and naturally I found a used #318 selling for north of $3,000. I sent a contact message to the seller inquiring as whether he had a cert. for the stamp. I've not heard back. The seller is probably completely unaware that his stamp is probably a fake.

Hopefully I've not been to quick on the draw on this one but has anyone ever found or heard of an authentic used #318?

Just did the same out of curiosity.
I see two used 318s - laughable fakes. One is a horizontal "coil", the other a vertical "coil". it's just like they didn't even try...
