I recently bought a small batch of classic American stamps for a couple of dollars, they are discarded copies from a collector because they have various flaws that did not suit his collection. I am not very scrupulous about quality, especially if the stamp is old and I like it, as is the case with the classic American stamp. My permissiveness limit is very high depending on the rarity, if it is a slightly noticeable and difficult to obtain seal I would rather have it broken and painful than not have it.
That's how I found this little one, which I think I have identified as a Scott #599b (the color is very noticeable compared to other #599 or similar specimens), which is a very nice specimen in lake color, perforated vertically and with what I think it is a split pre-cancellation. As can be seen with horror, the upper right corner is broken... and possibly one of its former owners tried to camouflage it with ink, graphite or something similar trying to simulate part of the cancellation...
Even with this great defect, I think that details such as its beautiful color, its type of perforation or its precancellation... make, in my opinion, this battered soldier earn a place among my troops. It is obvious that the stamp lost all the value it could have had, but it is the stamp that it is and it still looks pretty...
