Hello,

I recently came across the Canda Post and Mcdonalds Folktales game boards that were printed for kids, and handed out with Happy Meals (from this forum)

Further research suggest that some efforts have gone into promoting the hobby for kids, with the following items (that I could find on the web) from Canda Post that DID contain stamps;

1974 Stamp Hobby Kit - blue box, with stamps, books, promo materials, etc.

1991 - Folktales Game Boards - excellent discussion in the Community Forum. French and English versions. (unsure how to link to that topic)

1993 - Dinosaur Play Pack - Contained stamps from Canda, New Zealand and Australia. There is a listed Thematic collection with the stamps from these 3 nations, but this box seems so much more fun! Also references the Stamp Travellers Club.

1993 Dinosaurs Childrens Activity Pages

1997 - Stamp Travellers Club Box - again, stamp album, stamps, promotions and membership to get free 'stuff'.

2003 - Stamp Quest - again a mini starter kit, references the Stamp Travellers Club.

Do you know of other items from Canada Post that was geared towards kids? What were they?

What was/is the Stamp Travellers Club? What was the history, and success of the promotion? Were stamps really forwarded with club membership? (I believe the quarterly packs were given away until 2010).

Any information or other items to search out would be appreciated!!

The stamp travellers club/ stamp quest program by Canada Post was started in the late 80's and died I believe a little over 20 yrs later. It started as a free membership and members were shipped quizzes, games and stories in a folder and magazine as well as album pages to mount your stamps on. All free. Some free stamps of other countries were given in sets and oromotional packages; but no, the quarterly pack of stamps was not free, it had to be purchased but included free mounts.
Later it was a paid membership with the album pages quality going to blank and black boxes. Then they went back to full color printed album page full of information about the issues. They offered discounts on some materials and stamps and would provide free black back pouch mounts early on. Later they provided the better grade lighthouse clear style top mounts. This made the purchase of new issues through the Stamp Traveller/stamp quest palatable because of the good quality mounts.
I used to have an almost 100% complete collection of this stuff and have a few more duplicate reminants remaining. Some cards of reptiles, bookmarks, two differing dino packs, one is shown above, as well as the comic pack. The stamp quest CD put out by the Musium of Man, no longer available, was another piece that fit in well. Interactive with much information about stamps and collecting. Very fun disc.
