I remember reading that he things that would be left after a nuclear event would be insects and grass because of their higher resistance (for whatever reason) to radiations.

Of course that has nothing to do with the topic. Sorry. Back to stamps . . .

Well, since I'm not Canadian, I'll keep the answer to myself.

That lamp is the one I have for Canada stamps (and others).

The bulb in the lamp is burnt out almost now (only bright in the middle) and the bulb is available online from Subway I think. (haven't bought one yet though.)

RE: UV Lights for detecting tags. I collect British Hong Kong and have a Raytech Versilume Philatelic #10-021 Mod PPFLS W/View box. This works for both long and short wave UV (on BHK stamps and also some minerals I have). The downside is that it seems to be a sealed plastic unit, with no way to replace the light bulb short of ripping it apart. The instructions say " Insert key (provided)" but there was NO KEY and NO place to insert it. I see cheap ones on the net, Geology.com has a LW/SW portable for $44 US for example.
If you decide to get a UV light, get one that is serviceable. You can also use a clear bulb and run it through filters. Short wave (180-280 nm) UV works for most tagging and minerals. Long wave is 315-400 nm. The Raytech link in an earlier post doesn't work. Hope the information is useful - DS

I have the Versalume and the key is a small thin piece of metal shaped like a key (broad end. A small thin blade screwdriver would do the same. My Versalume seems fragile and do not see much of an issue replacing it. It is likely just pressing a plastic snap to unsnap it.

If you are really interested, I can check.
