Good evening. A new member from Kentucky. I also post in the coin forum. I have been collecting coins and stamps since I was much younger. Friends and family would send me new stamps. I have been working to sort through my original albums, consolidate them, and add to them. I love the history that stamps remind us of, and the evolution of colors in stamps is pretty remarkable. I primarily focus on the US. I have some international interest. Stamp history is world history. Can't wait to interact. I have been reading posts for a few weeks, and decided it was time to join. I do have questions. I am learning more and more about the science behind the stamp making. For the collecting, it is the thrill of hunt. One of my favorite stamps is the 4 cent Project Mercury stamp, and next are the 4 President Lincoln stamps from 58-59. The history there is great, and so are the images.

kywhisky13,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Sounds like you are a perfect candidate to become a postal history collector?

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
