Sydney, Australia's self proclaimed martyr with "with no other real stamp buyers here [Sydney)" offering "mouth-watering NETT price offers" has this strip of 3 of the 1912 £1 postage due (crown over double-lined A on thin paper) for sale at $AUD9,500. A snip as "NO "20%-25% Buyer Fees" and "3% credit card fees" to add to my *NETT* prices, as in auction!".

But, a Sydney auction house, Millennium Stamps auctions sold this block of six with the 'JBC' monogram for $AUD10,485 (including buyer fees) just this week.

.

An additional $1,000 for three more stamps and a monogram. Baaaahgaaain.

A lot of empty words.

But a dealer being almost twice as expensive as an auction even if not charging auction fees is not particularly shocking.

Beautiful block.

By the way, my foray into That Other Stamp Forum came to an abrupt end recently when the forum "administrator" mocked me for asking an honest, if newbie, question. When I took issue with this treatment, he edited my response (odd that he, and not the post author, have editing privileges) to remove the criticism, which was the last straw for me. Not at all a decent person.

I lurked for several years before deciding to join any online forum.

Don's moderating tone here was a big reason I decided to join this one. I'm happy I did, and I hope things continue similarly here going forward.

Looks like he bought the block of 6 and took the top strip off to get his money back... Sneaky? You bet. But far from unusual and we all know to avoid him. Won't say any more.

Now he wants $AUD5,950 for this dodgy fake cancel example.

Geoff Kellow in the 2020 3rd edition of the Australian Commonwealth Specialists' catalogue, Postage Dues including New South Wales and Victoria, BW Publishing, Sydney pp10/60 states:

"At present, two examples of the 2s, 10s and 20s*, all cancelled with Parcels Branch Sydney datestamp in violet are recorded, and represent the only acceptable used stamps".

He offers a Brandon certificate but my own experience is that they are worthless for these issues.

I'd trust the researcher over the dealer every time.

*a third example of the 20s has surfaced subsequent to the publishing of this catalogue.

The 2s has disappeared from his site, presumably sold.

$6k for a non-contemporary cancel, wow. I paid $AUD400 for my mint copy last year.
