Quick search online did not yield anything substantial, nor does Scott provide anything useful in terms of a visuals/photos; but I'm looking for a reference to be able to properly identify the difference between Venezuela Scott 1-3 versus 4-6, i.e. the fine impression versus the coarse impression.

Many thanks.

We're going to need a Venezuela expert for this one.

I had a look at my old Gibbons and it wan't much help either.

Based solely in general experience, if you had one of each I'd imagine they'd be easy to pick which one was which.

I wonder if the difference is due to plate wear?

Cavendish auctioned a Venezuela collection back in 2016, the Peter Brack collection.

Abebooks has a copy of the catalogue for sale:

From a website, the fine print is an American one; the coarse one is a local one with vertical lines between the adjoining stamps. So, they, likely, are from different plates.

American Philatelist published the Serrane guide in sections over a period of years. Serane focuses on forgeries but it may have information useful to you. Venezuela is in the November 1995 issue, freely downloadable from the APS website.

http://www.firstissues. org/countries/venezuela.php says,

Quote:
The initial issue of stamps was printed in the US and are distinguished by the fine inpression [sic]. The plates were subsequently sent to H.G. Neun in Caracas and the printing thereafter was noticably [sic] coarser.

Appreciate that Classic Paper. The link however was a dead one.

Edit - I just typed it in manually and found the site; many thanks. At least give a visual reference which is quite helpful. Thank you.
