These are the two I've been using for the last forty years, both Solingen Made in Germany.

I primarily use the pointed one since it's much easier and safer (for the stamp) to pick up a stamp with this one compared to the spade type.
I actually can't remember why I bought the spade type one since I rarely use it.

Forgot to add that when soaking stamps it is safer to use the spade type since when the stamps are wet & soft it is quite easy to puncture them with the pointed type.

Rather than the pointy-tipped type I have the rounded-tip (by Lighthouse in Germany but available in Canada from dealers) as shown and also a bent-tip spade type for soaking and handling wet stamps as litho has indicated.

Just a heads up--many of my scanned stamps have a funny line scribed across them because in my haste or carelessness while removing stamps from the scanner I scratched the glass plattern!

Now I use the pointy part of the flap of a glassine to slip under the stamp while using another to keep me from merely pushing the stamp along the glass to the edge where it can get stuck with disasterous results.

Also, might some of the creases mentioned earlier have come from using tweezers to pull hinged stamps from an alblum? I have made mistakes in that department, for sure.

PS in the horror story thread pierced nipples were mentioned...sounds like a good warning for those who keep tweezers or, heaven forbid TONGS, in their breast-pockets.

I have poked through wet and dry stamp with different tongs, being hasty.

I also have to watch for poking myself in the eye or wherever when holding a magnifying glass and tweezers (tongs, same thing, well, stamp tweezers, there I said it again, tweezers, it is a lovely word), or when just magnifying and not paying attention to all the things I am actually holding and just to the stamp.

Dangerous business, stamp studying. You tend to lose focus when using a loupe. Haw. Wear eye protection, except when you have to get close in on the stamp of course. Then it's every person for themselves.

For myself, yes, I always use the pointed ones and I can't image using anything else.
To each his own I guess.

Vocabulary. I think of "tweezers" as medical and "tongs" as philatelic. Call me anal. Well no, please don't.

Pointed, Lighthouse, long...I think it is the same one that is getting the favorable reviews here. Mine is inscribed Pi 51.
