Are you sure you are reading the date correctly? Air France was created on October 7, 1933. It did not exist in 1928. If the routing notation is a miswording and does not actually mean THE Air France and means only to go by some kind of French flown airmail, then it still is a bit confusing since so far as I know - and I admit I am not an expert on Indochina aviation - the first flight of a French airmail from Indochina to France was in 1929. I would be happy to hear from an Indochina expert on whether there was any earlier airmail by any French aircraft from Indochina to France in 1928. Perhaps there was? The other odd thing about this cover is that the envelop that was used is a typical British one rather than a French one. Perhaps the sender was British and was just using stationery they happened to have handy?
As Kimo states, Air France did not operate under that name in 1927.
The manuscript on the front also raises a question. The cancellation is for 13.7.27 (German office in China?). The manuscript appears to read 23.7.38, which would be the correct way, in German, to date something at 23-7-38.
Could the cancellation have had an incorrect year slug? Or has some text been added at a later time?
