In the classic maneuver of looking for something and finding something else, I recently saw a number of illustrations of late 19th century US stamps over printed with "(island name), by Guano Act 1856". Being something new to me, I've searched for information, but with zero luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

The word "bogus" in the ebay title line of the 3 dozen listings currently running sums it up well. Don't waste your money on this guano.

The Guano Islands Act (11 Stat. 119, enacted August 18, 1856, codified at 48 U.S.C. ch. 8 §§ 1411-1419) is a United States federal law passed by the Congress that enables citizens of the United States to take possession in the name of the United States of unclaimed islands containing guano deposits.
