The generalized stamp catalogues Do have all the countries listed in them. The confusing part is that there are specialized catalogues of each country also.
For example, in Canada there is a Unitrade Catalogue, specialized in Canadian stamps and stamps of the former provinces of Canada, related armail, special delivery, express, private airmai stamps, Newfoundland before joining Canada, postal stationary like envelopes and wrappers,.
And then there are specialized catalogues for stamps that are not postage stamp[s but revenue stamps like tobacco stamps or hunting and fishing stamps.
Also catalogues for specializations within the specializations. Precancelled stamps of canada. A four volume study on two stamps issued by Canada in 1898. Etc etc.
That's why we gab on about stamps here and elsewhere and show pics and material. None of us know everything, or have forgotten a lot, and it is good to either have reference material or people to ask for help.
But you can just do the parts you wish to.
You want to get a stamp cancelled on each day of a certain year, go for it. Stamps about cats or dogs or ships or planes or bridges or faces or colours of shapes or Good Lord it's Elvis. There is no end. A very human hobby I think. |

Wow, ahah that seems like alot of things to read and learn, ahah glad there are many of you here ;P
I am going to stick to just collecting stamps from different countries, that will be my topic, I have 50 countries so far, and my goal is to have at least one of each country.
One more question, what is cancellation? I have seen it alot here. |

Cancellation is the mark put on the stamp so that the stamp cannot be used (again) for postage. There are many collectors that specialize in collecting cancels, not just the stamp. |

With that said; You might want to read the post(rant, discussion, light hearted bickering) from a few months ago regarding "Stamp issuing entities". I am surprised no one has suggested it to you. |

Good suggestion, revstampman! This is the link https://goscf.com/t/6974You might also want to consult the online list at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...stage_stamps. This list is really far from complete, but it's a good starter list. Once you get hold of a Scott catalog, you can also make a list from that (but keep in mind many of those countries no longer exist or may no longer issue stamps). It depends on how you define it, but the final list should be around 500. |

...Um..wow. that is alot of them. I think I should just focus on the existing countries at the moment, and later start to broaden my collection to entities from different continents at a time. :P
thanks for the link, ill have to give it a read too.

Does anyone have a list of all the Countries, entities, previously free states, etc, that had/have stamps from Europe? I think im going to focus on that first, and then move to another continent. |

k-
Your edit from "would" to "wouldn't" made me feel a little better; then I thought, if Australia means "Australia/Oceania" 100-plus is almost a certainty...ugh. |

Yeah, my current laptop has a problem with the "n" and apostrophe not registering, which causes the next couple of characters to not register. It's a bad combination that can really change the meaning of the sentence. Sometimes I catch it as I type, sometimes I don't. It has caused me a few embarrassments! Sorry! |

Omg, what have I got myself into. So, which one would be the shortest one? I guess I can start with a short one, to actually have a chance to get a stamp/s from each one and feel accomplished and encourage myself to pursue the rest. You think Australia would be one of them? |

There are some people who only collect "dead countries" -- i.e., they don't issue stamps any more. The list of dead countries is a little more stable, but does grow with time. Many collectors of "dead countries" focus on 1840-1940 or pre-QEII dead countries only. |
