It's almost impossible to imagine being 90% sure of something that currently is not known to exist after 101 years. When presenting evidence in a forum like this one, things have to be VERY tight and reproducible. This has not been the case, which adds to the air of "cabaret."
Is that harsh or unfair? Should that make anyone feel they don't get no respect?
For my part, I hope you are right and we are all wrong. But you've made anything but a compelling case. Send it in, find out. |

I suppose if the cost associated with submitting a stamp is an issue (it is for me) send it in for the $27.00 survey and use priority mail insured for only $50.00. That way you minimize your investment in the process and stand to gain immeasurably if it comes back as the only one in existence. Nothing ventured nothing gained.. |

Quote: I feel like Rodney Dangerfield with yous guys…"this is a tough crowd" hahaha I think the most forum members are very patient and helpful. If you were clever you would cut a template from a rotary stamp and put it on your wannabe 613 . In a glance of a second your eye would give the signals to your brain, that the template has taller size. Not very much only a fingernail width. But you would realize that you made a lot of noise about nothing. |

And against its flat plate counterpart. It's not a perf 11 rotary press. But I did order a Precision US multi gauge tool today. Thank you for the learning lesson |

It is always important to compare against known reference stamp copies. Scott 610 and 612 stamps are very helpful to have in trying to compare against any stamp that may potentially be a Scott 613 which is what was finally done above. Thus, the subject stamp now appears to be a Scott 610. |

Quote: 2500 views = waste of our time How so? I think the entire purpose of the forum is to help people with these ID issues. I get it, there have been hundreds of posts about collectors hoping they've hit the good one but the responses will help future collectors on how to differentiate and the different steps that need to be taken to properly identify a piece. Not sure about others here but I for one am hoping one of these posts turns into that ruby in the mountain of rocks. |

I also think this was a very useful and valuable thread to learn about techniques, even if not in part of my collecting area. I hope these opportunities continue to present themselves.
What I object to is the abrasiveness, disrespect, defensiveness, aggressiveness, and general toxicity of the owners of wannabe rarities when their premise is "attacked" by logic and more knowledgeable collectors trying to give good advice. For a stamp worth maybe 2 bits, that seems unnecessary. |

I'm not too familiar with cert submission process, but for my understanding: if a 610 is submitted as a 613, would it come back simply as "genuine 610" (w/o any reference to 613) or would it come back as something like "not genuine 613"? |

The Philatelic Foundation would word it thusly, "AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT IT IS NOT SCOTT NO. 613, RATHER IT IS SCOTT NO. 610, GENUINE, PREVIOUSLY HINGED."
Plenty of examples on their site. The all caps are theirs, not mine.

Hello I am new to this forum and would like to start out with a stamp in my grandpa's collection . I replied in this post given it the same stamp in question. I am not an expert nor have those gauges and measuring devices but would try my best to answer queries in order to get to the bottom of which the stamp be genuinely valuable. |
