Hi Everyone,
Can anyone determine how this stamp is selling on Etsy for over $200 and other similar stamps are selling for under $3?

Key word is "selling/asking" not "sold". You can ask any price you want, but don't count on getting it for a 4 cent stamp.

When he wrote $3, I thought the OP meant 3c. Doubt it's worth even that.

The prices mentioned are in line with some of the listings on ebay, especially about a year or so ago.

Now if a seller is selling these at asking price, my first thought is money laundering; second is to fondly recall, "There's a sucker born every minute" whether or not P. T. Barnum said it.

Don't overthink it. Etsy is not a legitimate market for philately (or numismatics). By that, I mean it lacks informed buyers and sellers in those areas. These sellers are either comically naive, or looking to scam the buyer or the system.

The biggest red flag in these ads by unscrupulous sellers claiming a stamp is "rare" is that they never show the catalog number because that would reveal their lie immediately. Withholding this vital information is intended to make viewers wonder if they have the opportunity to buy a rare stamp, that perhaps is unlisted in the catalogs, for a fraction of fair market value. The seller's hope is that someone will impulsively click on the "Buy it now" option in the ad.

Social media platforms are loaded with " rare " stamps and " errors " by scammers and uninformed non collectors. Other " rare " and " error " stamps I have seen at three digit asking prices or opening bids include stained, torn, and my favorite " error " stamps, those having selvage still attached. Some people think anything now before 2004 is vintage and rare. My advice - ignore, forget and move on....
