As with the Grand Duke William IV issue of 1906 the Grand Duchess Marie Adelaide issue of 1914 is shown in the catalogs with multiple perforation varieties. Scott says 11½ and 11½x11, Prifix says the same and Michel adds 11½x11¼. Also as before they don't say which are available in which perf. I only have a couple of each value to go through, plus the various overprinted examples. Has anyone tried to pin down what is real and what is not? They didn't come in any special formats, not sheets of five, sheets of 10 or sheets of 25, so at least I don't have to deal with singles from one of those odd format sheets...

OK, I have a small census based on what I have on hand, the issues of 1914-1917 and the surcharges of 1916-1924:
11½x11 - 54
11½x11¼ - 12
11½ - 9
I wonder if there is enough variation in the perforating machine to show all these in one sheet, or whether they had three or more machines doing the vertical perforations? There is very little difference between them, after all... Does anyone have blocks or full sheets of any of these?

And I just received a block of 60 of the 7½c on 10c surcharge. Some of the stamps in the block are perforated 11½x11, some 11½x11¼ and some between. I'm guessing still that the vertical perforater had enough slop in it's pin positions to allow for enough variance to provide all three perforation types with the same machine, and potentially on the same sheets. I am going to configure my pages with that assumption, I can always add more pages later if needed.
