Hi everyone,
I'm new here but I'm a member of the sister coin community. A fellow coin collector friend and I decided to swap coins. I sent her a Canadian toonie and she sent me two beautiful coins. The funny thing is that these coins made their way around the world.
See the envelope that is stamped MISSENT TO HONG KONG
My friend said that stamp collectors might be interested in this story and possibly this envelope?
After more than a year, I finally got around to posting here in this stamp community. If someone is interested in this envelope, feel free to let me know. You will notice that it was mailed from Montana to Quebec Canada. We emailed one another continuously while we patiently waited for the coins to arrive. We both thought they were lost. They were mailed on May 4, 2023 and only got to Quebec on June 22, 2023. I kept wanting to share this story because I think it is hysterical. My friend joked that perhaps the coins were now considered international? lol!!!
If anyone is interested in such an envelope please feel free to let me know.
And finally, I wonder if an envelope such as this has any value?
Thanks

Neat. I do collect oddities like this, and I might buy it from a "dollar box" if I saw it at a stamp show. Except that this one is larger size than an ordinary envelope, and a bubble mailer, so it would take up too much space in my collection, so I would skip it.

It does have value in that it is interesting and entertaining, but does not have much dollar value.

Thanks for sharing. Are there any other markings on the back (from Hong Kong?)

I wasn't familiar with the topic, but thought it remarkable that it is a common enough occurrence for them to have a rubber stamp for the purpose, so I went down a bit of a rabbit hole. There is a thread on Post Crossing with dozens of modern examples including several Hong Kong but from all over the world.

The ebay search is apparently "missent to", there aren't that many listed especially not international ones.

Makes me wonder how it happened, "CANADA" seems pretty legible so it's not like someone misread it. Since there are several examples of Missent Hong Kong (in the PC thread) I wonder if HK is a big international mail hub?

Very cool stuff and thanks for sharing.

Thanks ZebraMan,
Here's the back of the envelope. I am quite curious as to why markings would be of interest? There are some numbers at the back and the front. Do they mean anything?

In the 'good old days', the post offices would often postmark (or "backstamp") every letter that was received to show its progress along the journey, and evidence of when it was received. Here is a random example from ebay of a nice busy cover that went from Tacoma Washington to Cape Town South Africa (and back) with stops along the way in New York City. You can read the markings and dates to see how long it took during each leg of the trip.

I was hoping that your envelope had a postmark on the back from Hong Kong, and/or one from the destination in Canada, to better document what took place and when.

The numbers probably mean something, but not to me. They could be codes from the mail sorter or mail carrier. Maybe the Ø222 relates to the 2Z2 postal code. It looks like the same pen might have been used to write a "G" below the unreadable J7G of the postal code. I don't really know.
