This came to me as is, except for a hinge remnant I soaked off to reveal a nice tear. Trying to ID it. Its got 88 & 100 on back, but I think its Sc94 - though not sure of color. F Grill ?? I counted 9-10 by 13mm or 12 points by 16. Yes/no?

Dip it as if you were looking for a watermark; this will bring up the grill and you will be able to count the points accurately.

Did that when I removed the hinge remnant. I was hoping to get a confirmation of my numbers if possible from a scan. The only thing I forgot to add was that I believe it's points down.

I could be wrong but it looks too big for Scott 94 ("F" Grill). I am thinking along the lines of Scott 88 ("E" Grill). Also the two pencil "88" might be a clue. When not indicating a rarity the pencil notations are quite often correct.

Away from desk now - I note the ' 88 ' too. But, if I recall correctly, that's a different denomination stamp ??

EDIT: the ' 100 ' in Scott is for image A30, 30˘ orange.

Only guessing, but '100' could have been a price at one time - $1.00.

ok, I buy that. I know catalog numbers have changed over time - but guessing not by that large of a sequence.

Also, a little confused, @wtcrowe mentions " too big " to be F grill, but E's are wider than F's , right??

The changed significantly for everything that is not specifically the front of the book postage. They were all strictly numerical, with no letter designations until 1940. Revenues were all four digit numbers, for example.

I guess what I was trying to say is that Sc 88 would not have changed to Sc 100 - like Sc 55 to 63-E11e, 58 to 62B, etc...
