I am currently asking myself which of the issued stamps of Chile are still eligible for postage.

I consulted my Michel Catalogue, alas - in respect of modern stamps in overseas areas they fail to state informations as to validity. What I could learn was, that the stamps nominated in Pesos before the introduction of Chilean Escudo in 1960 were usable at a rate of 1.000 old Pesos = 1 of the then introduced Escudo.

In 1975 the current Chile Peso (CLP) was introduced (1.000 Escudos = 1 CLP). As to stamps in Escudos after the reform Michel doesn't show any information.

Neither to the stamps in CLP anything is stated in regards to validity (be it a limit timewise oder valuewise).

The website of Correos de Chile seems to be down or, however, is currently not accessible for me.

Does anybody in the forum have any information on the subject?

All stamps issued since 1975 in Pesos (new Pesos, not pre-1960 ones) are valid for postage. But of course, those issued between 1975 and 1995 have face values that are very outdated for current rates. But they can still be used

Jorge,

many thanks for your prompt answer.

I would like to mark the moment by showing a 1992 stamp displaying the Correo Central at the Plaza des Armas in Santiago (which as we have learnt would be qualifing for postage, if it hadn't been already cancelled).

The branch is - according to internet recherche - still operative.
