hi everyone! I have recently inherited my granddad and uncles stamp collection and have started to learn about stamps and the hobby more seriously, as previously my love for them was more in the "these historic, pretty and tiny works of art that have travelled the world are so cool!"sense, though I did have a small collection of my own.

i'm looking forward to seeing what's on the site, i'm sure I will be coming here to ask questions about this and that- I hope i'm not a bother & i'm happy to be here

Hi Sharky - How fun to have those family materials to start with as a base. I'm sort of in the same boat. I collected as a teenager like a lot of people but during High School just sort of trailed off. When I retired a few years ago I picked it back up and I have a couple generations of family materials to work with along with my own childhood collection. I have learned A LOT from this forum, usually just by searching through the old posts & threads. Good luck to you!

I just joined today as well, have been collecting for about 60 years. United States almost exclusively. Still trying to figure out the nuances of the website.

Welcome! I'm new here too. I also had a childhood stamp collection that I decided to dust off 10 years ago and try to identify and organize. Now instead of a few albums, I've got boxes and boxes and only I've only made a little headway in identifying and mounting my original collection! Welcome to your new addiction!

@Sharky: Pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable.

Philately provides a number of opportunities. Collection and display of stamps, organized in any way you wish: by country, by year of issue, by function (postage vs. revenue, for example), for thematic documentation (heads of state, historic events, etc.) or even potential use for artistic creation: https://www.wadars.co.uk/postage-stamp-art/.

When I open this website I always scroll right to the bottom to see what is hot. That's the best way to look around unless you need to carefully start a new thread with your own question. Welcome.
