I am familiar with the difficulty of soaking the current US Postage off envelopes (I purchase mint so that's a mute issue). BUT I do receive items from a Canadian dealer who packages nicely & uses current Canadian Postage vice a meter indicia to get to the US. I really do not collect Canadian but I thought I'd start a small book because the issues are great. I have about 50 envelopes I would like to soak but need to understand if it is possible with the SA Canadian issues? If not, I'll do a 'close' trim & leave on paper (It's the bubble wrap packaging I really want to to eliminate). Any advice or hint is appreciated.

I have successfully soaked Canadian SA stamps off paper with no issues.

Just the normal technique or is there a special trick? I tried a small block the other day (bubble wrap envelope) left it soak for over 2-hours (forgot it) & it did not lift off the paper without thinning the stamps. Maybe an overnight soak???

Thanks for the comment.

The plastic on the back of paper from the bubble wrap is preventing the water from penetrating the paper. You could try completly dunking the entire piece in lukewarm water, and getting the stamp soaked and it is required sometimes and it will take a while to pull slowly away from SA gum, which will usually stay on the paper. Sometimes not. It is not as easy as plain paper envelope.

Edit: bubblewrap plastic envelope with no paper, thats a beast. You can try warmer water and a long soak, win some lose some. Maybe stamp release liquid may work better.

I'll give the piece another soak & leave overnight. The Canadian stamps themselves appear thinner than the US issues. Is that imaginary on my part or an actual difference in thickness?
