Hello everyone,

Scott #409 – Can anyone tell me if this is a forgery?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/135044265773
As you can see, the plate number is listed as 6001.

But according to the information, this plate number doesn't match #409:
https://www.theswedishtiger.com/409-scotts.html
https://www.usstamps.org/resources/...ers-1-41303/

6001 corresponds to #406:
https://www.theswedishtiger.com/406-scotts.html
which should have perforations.

So what is this then?

Tnank you

According to the BIA Plate number checklist, plate 6001 (as well as 6000) was used for 406 and 409.
So the Swedish Tiger is wrong here.

A not infrequent occurrence which can cause much heartburn. I respect the effort put into Swedish but there are a lot of areas that need polishing.

I have had ebay sellers for whom Swedish is the be all-end all argue endlessly that an item was a Type that it was not. The two cent Washington's are very problematic at times.

To build on rogdcam's observation above, the lesson of this experiece is to use better-quality resources. There is probably one thread here every month which has a reply involving a error, omission, or fault with the SwedishTiger site.

Beyond that, especially with the Washington/Franklins, several different Scott #s can easily be made from the same plate when it is printed onto different paper stock or perforated at a different gauge (or not at all).
