This 1840 Penny Black is my first stamp purchase after being away from the hobby for two decades (work, kids etc.). I looked at plate identification sites, but still cannot pinpoint it to one plate. Can anyone help?

Thank you both. Given that plate 3 was issued in less quantities than most of the other plates, can you tell me what the SG catalog value is?

Plate 3 has about a 30% premium so $320 for catalog value ,look about $400 for a used plate 3 .

The 2020 SG Specialised Volume 1, Part 1, prices it at GBP 500, against a basic price for a used Penny Black of GBP 375. (Indeed a mark-up of ca. 30%.)

Not bad. You, probably, would pay a little more at auction if the back is fine as well.
