Given it's mint (no gum), is in very good shape, and has a lighter color than other 1852 25c stamps I've seen, I suspect this is an essay. Anyone want to take a stab at it?
It could be the 1862 reprint. A trial color proof is possible though. In the color trial proofs :the printing should be apparent from the back of the stamp. Difficult to judge if the color I see on my screen is the same color of the stamp.
