It falls in between here. There's more to it but there's the storie. |

Quote: Cs, Yes, some plates got printed in both red and black. How did this and the previous related posts end up hijacking a thread about "Show Me The Best Stamp Of Your Collection". Am I missing something? |

Probably not the best ... certainly not the most valuable ... but nevertheless a personal favorite. An elegant and common stamp in superior condition. |

I've been collecting since I was about 6 years old, in my 70's now, and there are a few stamps in my collection that as a child, leafing through a Scott's or a Stanley Gibbons catalogue I could only dream about owning one day. It took me several decades but I now have quite a nice Great Britain collection, including a few of the really iconic ones from the classical period. My favorite is probably this one, not the most valuable one in my collection but highly desirable and really stunningly beautiful in its elegance and style |

Wadds - That has to be one of the finest stamp designs ever and a longtime favorite of mine. So much going on but not contrived IMO. It evokes a sense of a time and place that is powerful for a little square of paper. Powerful stuff. |

Certainly not the prettiest stamp in my collection and not the most valuable, but it's been the best and my personal favorite since I acquired it back in late 2015. While it appears to be quite common, since 1996 only 7 have been found and reported (5 used singles and 2 used on cover). |

It is a valuable stamp...the reverse die cut is an error.
The original stamp (Scott 2915C) with plate number 66666 was issued with die cuts of 11 x 12 (11peaks or "teeth" on the left side, 12 peaks or "teeth" on the right side) or 12 x 12. This stamp has a reverse die cut of 12 x 11. Seven with the plate number have been found and (to the best of my knowledge) less than a dozen without the plate number. |
