This stamp has a broken border, which correlates with a 36b. I would assume the perfs were trimmed? Or is there an Imperf with the broken border also?

Thank you guys for your insight. - Rick

This stamp is suspect. Any time you see a stamp with two contiguous wide margins and two contiguous no margins it is very likely to have been trimmed. I see it in first issue revenues all the time; less with classic postage but it still raises alarms.

Possibly some remaining trimmed perfs?

That can also be an optical illusion created by the design being on a black background.

Worn broken frame lines on this design say trimmed Scott 36B. Both Scott 36 and Scott 17 have complete unbroken frame lines around the design.

Those on the right might well be trimmed perfs.

Good eye Walkman82! I did not see that. Yes, possible illusion with black background and graininess of the photo. All said, I'm fairly confident it's a 36b. Any further info from the community is welcome!

One more question. Would anyone like to take a stab at placing a value on this "36b", with trimmed perfs and NG? Thanks!

BTW, it looks used. See the faint line starting between the "U.S." and continuing onto Washington's forehead...
