Hello all Stamp Masters,

I recently came across this stamp that kind of stumped me.

As far as I could find out it is a stamp of the Ottoman Empire Period, printed in Albania by Esat Pasha.
Stamps were also used as currency, and are supposedly quite rare.

This website:
https://www.invaluable.com/auction-...c-59242eb8ca

Contains the following description:
"Ottoman Empire stamps used as railway money in Albania, very rare and interesting"

Do any of you have more information on this fascinating stamp?

Heheh, sales sites like that aren't a good source for value. It might be listed in a revenue catalog, but I don't have any that cover Albania in the Ottoman era.

Not looking for value.
Found one sold on ebay for $9.99.

I just also found that apparently these were printed by Esat Pasha during the Scutari Siege in Albania, and were used as currency.

Im interested in knowing a more precise history of these, as I cannot find almost anything.

Just found that some of these stamps were part of "The Cook Collection of Central and Eastern European Banknotes".
Interestingly these revenue stamps were considered banknotes as well...

Lot of 5 of them (3x 10 Para, 2x 1 Grogh) was sold in this auction for 100 British Pounds:

Not sure what your comment is supposed to mean.
The only time I mentioned the word "Banknotes" was in reference to the Cook collection, which consists entirely of banknotes.
And apparently these stamps were considered banknotes because they were used as such.

These are siege notes.

Quote:
One of the few tangible assets in the region was the railway the Austrians were
then in the process of building. Essad Pasha immediately took control of the Albanian
Railway and its branches. The newly printed railway tickets were seized for use by his
treasury as a form of currency, as Essad Pasha had few other immediate sources of
income. Many of these "tokens" found their way to Scutari.

At least we established that these were indeed currency and the ultimate end use was not as railway tickets, emergency or otherwise.
