Warter marks get harder and harder as you get older and older. Please fill free to tell me what you see. Both stamps are from the same series.

I see a single line "U" on the top stamp and a double line "P" on the bottom. |

Ok. I was thinking U and I. But to me it's in focus with my glasses on. It may be time to visit the eye doctor? |

Gentle hint (well not so gentle) it really helps to also have an image of the front so we have some clue what stamp/series we are lookng at. In other words, give us as complete a set of information as you can. |

We were clicking on this not even knowing which country the label was from. Not very helpful! |

Quote: Both are double line watermarks. revcollector was posting while I was scanning. I agree. Consider: It's quite possible the lower watermark is an "I" as sometimes the design of the stamp can fool a viewer, particularly when the stamp is not in front of me. Regardless of P vs I, the lower stamp with a straight edge is from a booklet pane confirmed by the P/I-letter turned 90 degrees compared to the "U" on the other stamp. (Had the P/I-letter been upright, it would have been from a natural straight edge of a pane of 100.) Add: an illustration of the front sides would still be useful for completion, especially to those who do not collect U.S. |

Truly it looks like an I to me. The silhouette of Washington's head is what makes it look like a P but it would be an awful distorted P. Like you said. |

It's not an I. The leg of the P and the I are shaped a bit differently. If you look in the introduction of the specialized you will find examples of all the watermarks and you can see the difference. |

Fascinating over what wasn't said to this point. First checking my memory I think there were only two postage issues using watermarked paper intended for revenue. Over 100 years later someone was wondering if they had a new discovery of this kind of mistake, a sheet (or more) of USIR being used for Scott 319. I guess it's possible. Pretty coy to not reveal what was going on, on the printed side of the subjects. |

The Pic with two stamps. The lower stamp is the same as the single photo. If that's a P then it might as well be a D. If you look closely at the top of the I and closely at the top of the U. They art the same not even close. Now you know my reason for not showing which stamp it was. No would have given it a second look. |

And yes even after a hundred 20 years human error still comes into play especially when you're calculating Millions made. I wouldn't bothered looking for such if there were 200, 000 of them made and it was done in a couple of days and everyone was on the game. But a normal work day where I'm from there's usually a shortage of something or we are trying to fill in for something with something else who knows and then you throw human error in with it. That's a normal work day. Where I'm from. |

And I do apologize if I get a little heated discussing the concept but I tell you I've got two boys both of which are interested in absolutely nothing but money nothing but money so if I can find one and 21 billion both those boys will be in to stamps and that's what we need because this hobby is dying out faster than the dinosaurs. |

It's still not an I. I have looked at thousands of I watermarks and as I explained earlier, they have a different shape than the leg of the U, or the P, or the R. |
