Hello everyone ! Please show your Penny Black (s) ! The Penny Black is really an awesome stamp, with all it's history, it's different plates, cancels, etc. I think that every stamp collector need to have one. They all have their own personality, so that's why I would really like to see yours ! To start the topic, here is mine. It haves four quite equal margins, but unfortunately the red cancel is pretty blurred. It's from plate 4.

I don't ask this to pick on you, or to make you feel bad. I ask to help you in the spending of your money. Is there a tear on the bottom half of the right side? |

I was wondering what is going on here: I meant tear, as in torn, not as in crying. |

Yeah I understand. Here's a picture of the back aligned with the tear : |

@CJD, agree that it looks like a (repaired?) tear.
Edit: OP added the picture from the back.
There, also, appears to be a pinhole slightly to the right of the base of the neck. |

NSK, even if someone already did a post like that, (i didn't know) it's still fun to show Penny Blacks again, no ? |

No, it is fine. But it might be a good idea to check if there is not a relevant "show your ..." thread. For iconic stamps, there, almost certainly, will be one. It is so much more informative if they are not fragmented. |

I'm agree. Next time I'll do another "show your" but with a more original kind of stamps. |

I agree with trying to keep prior threads going, rather than compartmentalizing the information.
Your stamp has eye appeal, initially, and if I was flipping through a stack of dealer cards, I would flip back to look again, for sure.
Now, if that happened (and I'm going to get roasted for saying this), I might hold it up and say, "Ralph, you have $100 on this Penny Black...take a look at that right margin...would you take $20?" If he said, "yes" I might do it. Might depend on whether I had been finding enough interesting stuff that day, or not.
Some will say that it's crazy to pay anything for a seriously-damaged stamp. I wouldn't argue the point, on something as plentiful as a Penny Black. And I understand that it might set a tone for future evaluators thinking that I bought space-filler stamps. But I might do it. |

Cjd, yes, I understand. The negotiation is really useful. When I bought this stamp, I didn't know that I could negotiate to buy stamps. That's an error from me. Thanks for the observation. |

I would not touch it with a pole because of the damage.
I, however, can understand someone paying GBP 30 (certainly not more) for this example to fill a gap. It, probably, should not cost more than GBP 15. At first glance, it looks quite nice with good margins, except for the somewhat unattractive cancellation. It takes a closer look to notice the damage. So, it will sit nicely in a collection.
