Or why not pay what you were willing to pay and paid for the damaged stamp and buy a FAULT FREE stamp?

I say this because buying and overpaying for bunches of faulty stamps is about as losing a strategy as there is. They are a hard sell for a fraction of catalog unless of course you find the rare buyer such as yourself that is willing to throw money at faulty stamps for some unfathomable reason.

Just a thought.

Ok, I was only referring to the intense gray color shade. But I didn't verify on the plating website. That was why I was not sure.

As for plate 2, it is possible, but with a black MC unlikely.

It is a very nice piece. If it is from plate 2, even better with that black MC.

This is my Penny Black. It is not a quality piece technically… but it is mine. It is the only one I have and I love it. I would like to get one with a nice clear red Maltese cross eventually.

Thanks for sharing! I agree, it's not a quality piece due to it's condition, but it's still a Penny Black, the first stamp of the world. Yes, getting one with a nice maltese cross could be a nice project.

This is one from my Collection: Great Britain, Queen Victoria, 1840 Issue, Penny Black - (Greyish Black). Used with 4 excellent margins, Red Maltese Cross. Scott #1 - SG3, Plate 6, (NL), State 1. Some dots on check letters and worn plate.
