I was hoping someone cold help ID these? Im having trouble with them. I wonder if the furthest right one is cancel ink smudge also or damage or true color variety? I think the right one also may be chalky paper???
The cancellation on the righthand stamp appears to be FE 23 11, putting it well within the De La Rue chalk-surfaced paper period. The purple vignette has been severely washed out by soaking, which does tend to hint at it being printed on chalk-surfaced paper.
The stamp in the middle, also, shows damage from soaking.
Identifying exact colours from images on the web is a fool's game.
So for Stanley Gibbons M42 & M44 issues, baring plate varieties, the only way to be certain of identification is by colour, yes? Im not trying to identify colour, just making sure im not missing something.
The papers, gum, luminescence, and perforator types can also differ. Except for the perforator, most of these characteristics can be affected by soaking.
For this stamp, if I understand the catalogue correctly, the direction of printing differed.
