The postal label you reference is a registered mail label from the Saar. There would also have been separate postage, collecting the fee for registered mail, and this label has the identification number of the piece.

In this particular grab bag, the stamps chosen to represent Romania consist of 14 CTO issues - Olympics and birds....

Cjd - Thanks for the info on that label !!!

Butchie - that is so cool that you have that Golden Galleon mix. I'd wager there are not too many of those around in original, complete state.

Lots of fond memories going though bags like this. For me it was the plastic orange bags from Woolworth's. I'm glad one can still walk into a store and pick up a bag. I get these from relatives for my birthday and Christmas sometimes and they are still fun.

This lovely set of ten CTO wildlife issues comes to us from our good friends in the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea!

It's rather sad to think that the revenue generated from these stamps most likely went to help fund some aspect of North Korea's vast military/propaganda apparatus..

I remember them being orange cloth bags. That would have been in the early-to-mid 1970s.

Yes, I definitely remember the orange cloth bags. And in addition to Glasses Guy and Bald Dude, I still have envelopes stuffed with GB "Blue Man" and "Red Lady".

Hi, All,
I'm back again with today's first post covering the contents of the Harris 300 WW Stamp Mix.
Today, I'm weeding out all of the ridiculously humongous CTO stamps that make it somewhat difficult to find other stamps in the sorting tray.

I give you Cuba, Yemen, and Mongolia:

I'm not a big fan of CTOs, since they are not intended for postal use.
But, for what they are, they still will get added to the collection.

Another interesting item found in the bag is this facsimile sheet of U.S. Zeppelin airmails. I previously got one of these in a Harris U.S. grab bag a few months ago. They must be throwing one in every bag. Actually, with my budget, these are the closest I'll ever get to having the Zeps in my collection.

These were in cheap orange cloth bags back in the late 1950s when I lusted after them as a kid. I saw them on a shelf at the local "five and dime" store that I frequented with my dimes and nickels. With a string to open and close them like a laundry bag. I may have bought one or two. If I sold these today, I'd probably make them clear plastic to entice people more. You might want to suggest that to HE Harris sometime. He's the guy who got me into stamp collecting.

Part of the fun for me was the mystery of not seeing what stamps were in the bag until I got it home and opened it.

There is a vintage orange cloth Mission Stamp Bag on ebay right now for $10.99.

There's a different one from Honor-Bilt pictured on WorthPoint, this one with a postal mailing bag attached. I would love to find an intact bag that was postally used.
