Victoria Four Five And Nine Pence Questions

These are from my husband's collections and I'm trying to narrow down the date. I research online daily, but there seem to be some discrepancies in regards to dating Victoria Stamps. Is there a simple photo to date chart available?

That would be a catalogue. Looking at those stamps, I would expect your husband to have had a catalogue.

You need to measure (not count) perforations, identify watermarks and colours.

Your 4d looks yellowish olive. It, likely has perforation 11 and a watermark with a double-lined "A" with a crown over it. If so, it is from the early 1900s.

The 5d is from the period 1885 - 1900.

The 9d requires more details.

NSK said it well. As for me, I want to commend you on your pics. Excellent! You would be surprised how many people come here and provide a blurry cell phone photo and then want complex opinions. You are off to a great start! AND the back pics are not only excellent, but they also show a part of a stamp that sometimes can be almost important as the front. The only tiny suggestion I would make is a black rather than a white background can show perforations better. That being said you have done a very nice job with the contrast.

With that, said, I'm embarrassed I let the nine pence slip by. I'll take a new (a hundred) photo.

Oh, and I did probably have them in a black background. Not sure why I switched to white.

Sadly, no catalogs. My husband had a LOT more coins than stamps. He didn't start collecting them until a few years ago. Unless he "hid" the catalogs. He had a habit of stacking and double shelving. That was his extent of organizing, LOL.

Having spent some time on his stamps, I know that most aren't worth much. He just liked them. Baseball genre, NATO, Women of the Armed Forces, various presidents and historic figures. I don't think I'll be submitting much here.

But I am really enjoying learning about stamps! I honestly never thought I'd ever say that

I reread your comment on the nine pence. Because I feel the photo could be crisper, I'd assumed you'd meant that when referring to needing more details. Was there something else?
