Share Your Images Of Australian Stamps With Retouches, Recuts And Re-Entries.

Retouches and recuts are sometimes difficult to distinguish using the diagrams in the specialist catalogues.

This thread is an invitation for members to post images of their stamps with retouched/re-cut shading, re-entries etc.

To begin, at right below is the ACSC listed 'State II, retouch to shading around "POST" and in base of "S" that may be found on the 1957 2/6d Aborigine stamp.

I've only a few of the retouches. This one could be the most extensive of all of the Australian retouches, usually called the Foggy Hills Retouch of the 1/2 d kangaroo, Scott 223A. Here is the "normal" top of the stamp:

And here is the retouch of almost all of the horizontal lines above and behind the kangaroo's head:

Here's a modern retouch, or possibly more than one retouch to the same area: the Cricket stamp SG572 from the Non-Olympic Sports series. there is a retouch to the cricketer's under-arm area. As can clearly be seen, The normal blotchy look of the area is disrupted. The two variants that I have appear to be somewhat different. Of course there may have been two two positions on the sheet retouched. My old catalogue (1990) however only lists one position with this variety.

Mentioned in another SCF thread (too lazy to locate it), this Re-Entry is dramatic. Scott 103, ACSC 138e, 1929 Centenary of Western Australia. Described as "Re-entry to swan's neck and T of Australia". Found in a block of 4.

Another fun area for Re-Entries is Scott 163 (ACSC 175), the 150th Anniversary of New South Wales. The normal stamp is shown below:

Though not a Re-entry, re-touch, or re-cut, this fault was found from the beginning. It is the "Man with Tail" fault, and it almost looks like it should be there in the first place:

Once this was discovered, it was re-touched, yet still left a small bit of residue (smudge) above the weeds. Two examples from my collection:


This last example is a re-touch to upper left frame:

Scott 267, ACSC 308 is the 1954 Royal Visit of QEII. The Re-entry to ROYAL VISIT, 3 1/2d, was found on a First Day Cover. (The re-entry is rather subtle, but you can see doubling in the 1 of 1/2d the most clearly.)
