Have you ever attended a stamp club meeting where you have spent much time preparing for the presentation only to get glassy eyed stares, slight snoring at the end.or the just crickets death silence.

That recently happen to me with the below illustrated item. I went into great detail of the rating, routing, Americana stamp series, the company and when done, I just heard crickets.

No I have not actually rated the item yet. I will do so once in hand so I may see the date of mailing for rating determination. Now if you are still clueless on my comment let me help explain the joke:

Reptiles need to eat too.

Now for a serious discussion. This is the first mailing I or Bob Rufe have seen with live crickets being mailed. We both chase or chased Special Handling (Bob winning a Grand for his exhibit on the subject) and have seen many things mailed but not crickets. Ducks, chicks, bees, queen bees, alligators, leaches, bacteria, worms, children, goldfish, plants and the like. These mailing span a hundred years or more.

What mailing containers (packages) can you show which carried some live critter? Or what critter have you seen mailed. No limit on stamp series period.

The 19th century New South Wales postal guides had specific instructions on mailing bees.

As does the USPOD Postal Guides and the USPS mail manual. Rules for mailing other critters as well, especially chicks, day old chicks specifically.

The one I want is from mailing scorpions, which at least a few years ago was legal if it was between antivenom labs and clearly labeled.

The Live Crickets parcel's handstamps seem to indicate Nov 1, 1999.

(While 19'89' seems to appear, it is factually ruled out by issuance of the $2 Bobcat in 1990, which is surprisingly earlier than I thought it would be. As for date of month, '11' or '21' might be possible, too.)
