I have these two sealed and never opened sets of Laotian stamps. I can find no pictures or mention of stamps in their original packages from Laos, but I'm under the impression that stamps from colonial era nations have interest today. These are in my childhood collection, and we had relatives that traveled extensively and never threw anything away (Depressions will cause this!) Can anyone shed light on this for me? Thank you in advance.

Laos, Scott 41-47, issued in 1958. My ancient catalog has a value of $2.89 for the set. The envelopes are glassine which has not aged well. Looks like it damaged the stamps. But they have great design.

I always loved that set. Those early stamps from Laos were beautifully engraved. I'm pretty sure I bought that set for 10 or 20 cents at the local dime store back in the late 1950s. It hasn't increased in value much in the last 70 years. One of the online catalogs lists the set at $15 in mint never hinged condition.

In my opinion, this is one of the finest stamp sets from the Kingdom of Laos. It was designed by the painter and artist Chamnane Prisayane and engraved by Jean Pheulpin, who received the first prize for best French philatelic art in 1958 for this set.

The set is not rare and is frequently offered for sale online. Its Michel catalogue value is around 20 euros in excellent condition. Your set appears to be complete, but I can't assess its condition since the stamps are inside glassine envelopes.

By the way, if that's a photo album that's housing your childhood stamps, you should carefully remove them from it.
