I'm kind of excited about this recent acquisition. A 1/2c Numeral QV with a 3c QV Numeral bisect on piece and all tied together with a near perfect CDS cancel from Upper Stewiacke, NS. The date is January, 24, 1899, which is about the same time Port Hood started issuing provisionals (noted by a previous owner on the back of the piece). I would guess for the same reason, they ran out of 2c stamps.

Would love to hear comments.

That is a lovely postmark smacked right into both those stamps. Very neat piece. If only the whole cover was there but such is. At least this was kept as is - very cool!
